The European Championships was fished over four days in Weymouth with the Light Line Championships fished on day five.
The first four days of championship was tough going, bad weather for the first 2 days but with a wonderful fleet of boats for the Championship this was no problem.
The four Day championships was a two hook competition with all bait supplied fishing for pollack over rough ground using tiny red gills or tiny strips mackerel, then catching Ballen Wrasse on this ground also using ragworm followed by cuckoo wrasse and pouting. Catching bream on the drift with squid & mackerel strips was good also picking up Red Gurnards. There were lots of Gar fish & mackerel strips proofed the most successful way to catch the Gars. Fishing at Anchor for dogfish ,bullhuss, & getting some turbet ,thornback ray & bream were also caught all on same traces using mackerel & squid as bait with the odd conger eel turning up !
The fifth day was the European light line Championship were everyone fishing had to use 8kg line and catch big fish this was going to be fun !Using 8kilo line & we could use what ever trace strength we preferred & hook size !
The sun shone & I was on board "Lone shark" skippered by Richard English with nine other anglers , we steamed to a wreck caught some fresh Mackerel .Richard then anchored his boat & we all dropped down our baits there was a very strong tide running & we had to use 2LB leads to hold bottom as there was a "Strong" current well before long Christina from South Africa was reeling in a conger we cheered her on & everybody was chuffed for ,then local angler Dick well I think the Conger knew him he got off to a great start .
We had on board
on the boat "Lone-Shark" for the day
My tally for that Days Sea Fishing was 8 Conger eels on Ande 8kg light line and this is a picture of my biggest fish a 47lbs Conger eel
